Marjorie Rogene Slocum, age 89, of Alma, Michigan formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living in Alma.  Rogene was born on June 21, 1926 in Hillsdale, Michigan, the daughter of David M. and Charlotte W. Woods Trout.  On June 21, 1948, Marjorie was united in marriage with Lowell John Slocum in Mt. Pleasant.  Lowell passed away on May 22, 1981.

    Rogene was a church organist for several churches for over forty years.  She was a composer of sacred music, which was her passion in life.  She attended Oberlin Conservancy and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central Michigan University.  Marjorie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant since April 2, 1942.  She attended the Alma United Methodist Church when she lived in Alma.

     Survivors include her children, Emily and Michael Moerlins of Alma, John Slocum of E. Syracuse, New York and Mary and Alex Siachames of Willow Springs, North Carolina; two grandchildren:  Monica and Tom Darga and Demitri and Krista Siachames; two great grandchildren: Della and Emma Siachames; a sister, Elinor Verville of Tulsa, Oklahoma and a sister-in- law Margie Trout of Annapolis, Maryland.  Rogene was preceded in death by her husband; a son, William; both parents and a brother Maurice Trout.

     A service celebrating Rogene’s life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Andrew Miller of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.  Private family graveside will be held on Denver Township Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon to the time of the service.  Friends desiring to make a memorial contribution in Rogene’s memory may wish to consider the Arbor Grove Assisted Living.  Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
